How The Auction Works
How the auction works.
Items are listed at an initial offering price and the price of the item decreases weekly at a set rate. When the calendar reaches the first week for which there is a bidder, the item is sold at the price associated with that week. Bids are listed anonymously. Secondary bidders for any given week will be recorded by the PIFS in the event that the listed bidder ends up defaulting for any reason.
Instructions for exhibitors submitting items
You will need to submit a JPEG image with either 450 pixels wide by 350 pixels high (for horizontal images) or 350 pixels wide by 450 pixels high (for vertical images). Call us if you are unsure if your image is suitable. On the submission form, give a name for the piece and a description, featuring its functionality, materials, and dimensions. Also on the submission form, state a starting price and the week you wish the bidding to commence. Specify how many weeks you want the auction to continue, by what increment the price will decrease every week and what the final week (and price) will be. If the item reaches the final week without a bidder it will be removed from the site. Tell where you are located and give an explanation to potential buyers about the likely costs of delivery as related to several possible distances from your home base (bidders are accepting not only the purchase price but the terms of delivery as well, unless they are picking it up themselves). You will be charged a commission of 10% of the successful purchase price (excluding delivery charges) plus a $10 credit card fee.
Instructions for bidders
If you have any questions about any item please email the exhibitor using the email address listed in the 2009 Gallery section of the website. Please fill in the bidding form, entering your five digit contact code (any combination of 5 digits or letters you wish) in the week you wish to place a bid. First enter your name, telephone, address, email and contact code in the registration form. Then enter your contact code in the box corresponding to the date (with its associated price) you are committing to. You may enter a secondary bid for any week for which a bid is already listed. (This will entitle you to the item in the event that the listed bidder defaults.) Bids will be listed anonymously. You will be called for credit card information before your bid is listed, as your bid constitutes a commitment to buy the item at the price specified for the week you pick. You must also check the box indicating that you have read and understood all the bidding instructions before your bid will be entered. Your credit card will not be charged until such time as you are the winning bidder. If you place a bid and default you will lose eligibility to bid on any future items. Bidding on an item also constitutes acceptance of the terms of delivery, which may include free local delivery or the option of you picking the item up yourself. Let us know on the bidding form if you will be picking up the piece yourself. Delivery charges, if applicable, will be added to the amount you will be charged. If the artist you are purchasing from lives in the state of Pennsylvania, you will be charged an additional 7% sales tax on any successful bid. If you are the successful bidder and find that the item you receive is not as represented you have the right to return the item within two weeks of receiving it. After two weeks all sales will be final. Shipping charges for returned items will be shared equally between buyer and seller. The buyer is responsible for the condition of any returned item unless the reason for return is a fault or damage reported by the buyer to the seller immediately upon receipt of the item.
